Tunnels and (not spiral) Staircases

According to QI this is definitely not a spiral staircase. It doesn't get bigger and bigger or smaller and smaller like a spiral so it's more of a helix staircase, not so catchy but sounds like a funkier thing to walk round. It went down to a long tunnel.

The tunnel was underground and the walls so thick that none of the heat from the blazing hot day could reach in and warm it. Lovely.
