Treasure Box

A few blogs ago I showed a Tardis display box ready for its Whovian treasures...today here's another box I made before it to hold other bits and weird pieces I have collected over the years. This is the box near the start. It was a deep picture frame, then I put in shelves made of balsa wood and glued gold ribbon round the edge.

I lined the back of each display section with a different coloured piece of scrap paper...

Then filled it.

Saggy Bottom

One of the wonderful things about Socklets is that they really make you feel good about your shape. They celebrate all that is best about short legs, generous hips and slightly saggy bottoms. See?

Come to that...a few lines around the chin too  = )

Love is in the Air

Maybe it's the weather warming up and more bare skin being on show... maybe its just the Disney season for being "twitter-pated". Who knows? But here in the Socklet Place there is a little romance going on...

It's nice to see a man who's not afraid to wear pink and a woman who models a traditional size!

Mollie Makes

There's a crafty magazine called Mollie Makes that is full of ideas, patterns, websites and aspirational crafty lifestyle pics. Sometimes I follow exactly what they show and sometimes I go 'off piste'.

This was from an early issue and the fruit looks lovely and zingy and spring-like.
Later I used posh-fabric scraps from a 'fill a bag for £1' box to make a more sophisticated autumn version.

I sold them to raise money for the National Autistic Society, except for 2 red apples which have become my pincushions.

More pen and ink

Remember the weird cake lady Socklet from a few blogs ago? Well here is her pen and ink representation doing a cookery show. She looks a little like Johnny Depp's Mad Hatter in the drawing.

And a reminder of the original

Pen and Ink

I was given a beautiful pen and ink set by my sister and her family a while ago...really atmospheric. The dip pen was made of glass and the ink bottles were sealed with blood-red wax and cotton seals that had to be cracked apart.

I did the usual: staring at a blank piece of paper, writing my name in different colours, scribbling to see how long the pen held ink before it needed re-dipping...all the stuff you do when you're afraid to start for real. Then I left them for quite a few months and, when I came back to them, just decided to be brave and get on with it. After all, if it goes wrong who cares? It's only a picture.

Not bad...I'm more of a maker than a draw-er, a 3D rather than a 2D, a needle and cardboard person not a pen and pencil... but am ok as long as I can copy something. So what better to copy than one of my socklets?
This one in fact...
