Marmite Cake!

I hasten to reassure you Marmite-haters that the cake was not made using Marmite as one of the ingredients (sorry to disappoint those of you who were hoping). Most of the members of the family asked that question before committing to having any!!

As I said at the end of yesterday's blog, it was husband's birthday and he is a Marmite addict... not just eating it but also drawing it several times a week in many forms, mostly on an ipad but occasionally in shrink plastic too. For the truth of this staement see http://kercal.wibsite.com/2013/11/23/doodlebombing-pc-world/ and many other pages thereof.

So what could be more natural than making him a gigantic Marmite jar-shaped cake? NOTHING, that's what!

I baked it as a single layer of cake in one of those disposable turkey roasting trays...

put the bought, coloured icing between two layers of cling film and rolled it out with a rolling pin till it was big enough to lay on top (not very appetizing I know).

Did the same with the other decorative colours and bits, then piped white icing on for the letters: MARMITE. Then I cut out the jar shape and transferred the finished cake to a board for the party.

And here is the moment for birthday singing: "Happy Marmite to you!"

Dr Who-vent calendar monster today is... another Sontaran.

And if you want to check up where we're at so far here's the whole calendar
 so far...
