Generosity and the Fairy Folk

When we were on holiday in the Isle of Wight many years ago, when the children were tiny and more easily entertained, we searched out popular tourist attractions on the island and one of these was a model village. The photo in the brochure looked promising and we paid happily to go in only to discover that the photo had been taken in the 1970's and nothing much had been done to the place since then. Normally that wouldn't have bothered me, I love a bit of retro, but that also included maintainance and mending. Many of the figures has fallen, been blown about and in some cases were headless. It was an expensive disappointment.

Things may have changed in the intervening decade, we have never gone back to see, but this year we accidentally walked through a route that took us from a gift shop, through someone's beautifully laid out back garden and round the most amazing display of fairytale scenes tucked away in hiding. A bucket hung up near the end of the route suggested a donation to a local charity (which we happily made) but it was displayed with love and was fascinating to see. The whole family, including the now teenaged children, were entranced and loved the generosity of the soul who had done it.

Here is a sample of their loveliness

Thank you unknown kind person. We loved it!
